contemporary landscape painter: Jake Chilvers
Born in Huddersfield, west Yorkshire; the creation of art has always been a part of my life. As I grew older I began to pursue my interest in art and treat it as a profession, painting the landscapes around me I found my passion in art. In the village I grew up in, I started selling my work in a local gallery, The Gallery Slaithwaite and Enjoy Art gallery; I now have a small shop in a local village in which I exhibit my work all year round. I studied contemporary art at the University of Huddersfield. BA contemporary art and illustration. Along side me achieving a degree, I also pursued the idea of becoming a professional artist, receiving commissions from people all over the world, ranging from Canada, Germany, America, Thailand and many more. Selling mostly to clients based in the USA.

About my Practice
My practice primarily consists of oil painting, despite only using oils at this moment of time, I have painted with acrylics, watercolours and inks. Exploring the basic materials within art built the foundation to develop my skills. Initially when I started painting, I only used water based mediums and it was not until a year into consistent practice did I paint with oils. Within painting I aim to develop the skills in which I can communicate what I think and what I see relevant to the subject of nature. The majority of my paintings portray English scenes, each landscape is based off of a real setting. I build all of the canvases I use for each painting, providing the best quality results. High quality cotton or linen is used for each painting canvas.
